University of Kufa, Faculty of pharmacy discussed the Master’s thesis titled “Assessment of adherence to NCCN guideline recommended anticoagulant therapy in the management of patients with cancer-associated venous thromboembolic disease.” by the student ghufran Hassoun Naeemah.
the thesis aimed to 1-Assessment of oncologists adherence to NCCN guideline for anticoagulant therapy in the prevention and management of cancer-associated venous thromboembolism.
2- Assessment of educational intervention by clinical pharmcacist to improve oncologists adherence to the guideline above.the reserecher recommended further studies are needed that include more than one centers in different cities of Iraq with larger sample sizes and longer duration, also collecting clinicals outcome of the patients and correlate them with level of adherence.
In summary, 1-Level of adherence of oncologists to NCCN guideline was not fully adequate.
2-The pharmacist intervention cause an enhancement in the adherence of oncologists to the recommendations outlined in the NCCN guideline following the implementation of an educational program. Furthermore, there exist many barriers that predominantly impede adherence, such as severe side effects, elevated costs, and an insufficient of awareness regarding guidelines. Moreover, the impact of the intervention on adherence was found to be influenced by the level of specialization, while no significant effect was observed in relation to age or duration of practice
